CUSTOM NEON

Our custom neon projects are fabricated in our San Francisco studio, where we bend, process, and assemble every piece by hand. We work with artists, designers, institutions, and community partners to produce work that honors the craft while embracing contemporary approaches to light and form.

For custom neon outside of the Bay Area, we coordinate packing and shipping or recommend trusted neon shops.

CUSTOM NEON FORM

  • Fabrication
We bend and process each neon piece by hand in our San Francisco studio and provide the appropriate power supply for the finished work.

    Design
We design custom neon based on your descriptions, reference images, and reference materials, translating ideas into forms suited to the medium.

    Installation
We offer on-site installation at the final destination when appropriate. Scope, location, and fees are determined on a project-by-project basis.

    Referrals
For projects outside our geographic reach, we’re happy to refer you to trusted neon benders in your area.

  • All neon is made by hand.
Even iconic signs—like the Budweiser sign at your local corner store—are shaped by skilled craftspeople. For over 120 years, neon has been formed by heating and bending glass in specialized fires and filling it with noble gases.

Neon is the namesake, not the whole story.
While “neon” gives the medium its name, many other noble gases are used. Each produces distinct colors, brightness, and visual character.

We work with a rare range of gases.
In addition to Neon and Argon/Mercury, we also use Helium, Krypton, and Xenon—an uncommon practice that allows for a broader and more nuanced palette of light.

  • What’s a bender?
A bender is a skilled craftsperson who shapes glass tubing by hand in fire and fills it with noble gases to create neon light.

Isn’t LED more efficient or eco-friendly than neon?
Not necessarily. Neon is highly energy-efficient, made from glass and inert noble gases, and can last for decades. LED is plastic-based and typically has a much shorter lifespan.

    What is the quoting process?
Submit the form above with project details. We’ll follow up with questions and provide an estimate. A desposit is required to begin he design and/or fabrication work.

How long will my neon last?
With proper care, neon can last decades. We offer a one-year warranty covering fabrication or installation issues and remain available for troubleshooting.
